Dance and Drama Awards Funding news January 2012
The Department for Education has been working with colleagues in the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) Young People's Learning Agency (YPLA) and Skills Funding Agency (the Agency) to consider a long term solution to providing support for the most talented young people and adults to access specialist dance and drama provision in the UK.
In December 2011, the departments concerned reported that they need further to consider the options, and that they have therefore decided to postpone the implementation of the new arrangements to commence in September 2013 rather than September 2012 as was anticipated.
The DaDA scheme will therfore be supported for a further, final transitional year in 2012/2013. This means that students showing exceptional talent during the autumn term 2011 audition period and who start courses in September 2012 will continue to be offered awards under the DaDA scheme, and will be funded to the end of their courses.
This will be the final transitional year, before a long term solution is implemented.
Fees / Scholarships
Musical Theatre 3 year course - DaDA Awards
All students who are successful at audition and are then recommended for a DADA Award will have their fees paid via Manchester L.E.A.. Government policy currently states that for University and DADA College places, a parental contribution of £1275.00 per annum is required. Families are also entitled to claim for maintenance and fees support towards this. Students and parents are provided with information and claim forms at the parents evening in early summer.
Liverpool Theatre School has places available each year on the Governments Dance and Drama Award (DaDa) scheme. Awards places are allocated based on talent. As per Government guidelines a parental contribution is required and is subject to income assessment through the fees and maintenance fund. Please see the award section for further details.
LTS Scholarships are also available so that talented students are not penalised due to their financial circumstances.
Foundation Musical Theatre/ Dance Performers 1 year Course
All students successful at their audition who confirm acceptance of a place on the 1 year Foundation Musical Theatre or Dance Performers course may be eligible for a scholarship.
Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA)
Payments of EMA to students are in line with Government policy and varies between local education authorites. All students need to register with their authority that they are in full time education. Any confirmation required by your local authority that you are a student at LTS will be provided by the Administration Office.
